Chekroba
Tshekrobí Slefa, the Petulant Oasis
Although many of the major cities of Wanisin were founded around approximately the same time, Chekroba has always maintained a sense of superiority based in seniority. Early writers noticed this, and during a brief period of unrest in the second century, Chekroba was nicknamed Surví Wemno in reference to the ancient rival of Tévopío. Modernly this quality is very much in the background, but it lingers. Chekrobans have a different, more permissive attitude toward ancient Sarthian customs, and are more likely to be familiar with the religious stories of the Lilitai than their counterparts in other cities. This does not make them heretics, despite the efforts of Senator Vendazra Kevrolla in the early fourteenth millennium to make public discourse more permeable. In fact, Chekrobans are more frequently atheist than other cityfolk, and this effort was aimed to compensate for it. Chekroba has largely balanced trade, and its humid, hot climate is excellent for agriculture. It is also a manufacturing centre using raw materials from Zokipolla and other industries on the far western side of the mountains.
