The Interim
Major events between the Regení and Lenení eras
The Reed–Iron Interim lasted just under five centuries and saw the partitioning of the once-unified Regenelía Praesidium into numerous independent municipal governments. Many of these governments retained their internal Regení hierarchies with relatively little modification, but others, such as Velanner, saw a complete overthrow of the existing power structure in favour of new factions.

Even before the Praesidium disintegrated in the late third millennium, suspicion and hostility toward the Lyrans had become a permanent facet of life in many Thessian cities; some communities, like Níonosca, saw the decline of central government as an opportunity to finally enact explicitly racist policies that excluded Lyrisians and Noctians from participation in public life. From a modern perspective, in the twilight years of the Wind Republic, this sort of antagonism may seem quite inconceivable, but it was only with the unraveling of the Reed system that latent anxieties, from the days before the NPU, could first be confronted.

In the Interim, Lyrisiphobia generally manifested in the form of three key issues:

  • Belief that the Lyrisclensiae had interfered with Thet's right to self-determination due to their history with the Hatel Commonwealth, the Lilitai, and involvement in the design of the Reed Administration.
  • Belief that the Lyrisclensiae viewed themselves as superior, an implicit consequence of their transhumanist and eugenicist heritage.
  • Belief that the Lyrisclensiae were unfairly withholding technological and scientific advances, which should either be shared freely on the basis of altruism or shared specifically with the Thessians as compensation for the other two points of contention.
