okhu, n. Feeling or emotion. As with ighu, there are several tiers of distinction involved. Okhekíu indicates a single episode of emotion; okhekhtíu indicates the experience of that episode; okhinu indicates the entirety of emotional behaviour, and okhu communicates a serial of emotional episodes, typically on one subject. La thestuní okhe írir: she held feelings of mirth. The pivotal notion is that the experience of an emotion, like a thought, is a transient thing, and to be revisited by the same emotion repeatedly is to develop a trend. The cultural basis for this linguistic development is complex, and lies within the Ksreskézaian belief that emotions are impulses generated by the work of spirits.
