–ekhtíu, suf. Forms a verbal (gerundial) noun from a verb in the infinitive (-é) form; in English verbal nouns usually end in -ing but function as a noun.

usage: The verb's normal -é ending should be removed and replaced with this suffix, e.g. thebé, "to create," becomes thebekhtíu, the event or process of "creating." -ekhtíu is often conflated with -ekíu, which yields the deverbal noun form, indicating the result or product of an action, e.g. thebekíu, "creation." See also -eneí, the participle ending, which also translates to English as "-ing." Like verbal nouns in English, -ekhtíu forms are modified with adjectives, while gerunds are still modified with adverbs. Lilitika does not include true gerunds.
