These verbs (and sometimes suffixes) indicate that some noun being affected (for verbs, the sentence's subject; for adjective-forming suffices, the noun which the adjective affects) is being identified with some other term (for verbs, the subject complement; for adjective-forming suffices, the affixed noun or clause).
