hedíu, n. About, regarding, in the matter speaking of (complementizer form; see also hedí and hedu).

usage: This marks the beginning of an independent clause, with basic syntax comparable to tsu. It modifies the verb within the subclause to mean "about ...". As with tsu, the inflection of hedíu matches its role in the parent sentence. This is commonly seen in combination with oshes, resulting in translations like "the purpose of the matter about..." which may be rendered as "to discuss." English does not like this sort of recursion very much, and relexing tends to produce redundant verbiage.

  • Rakan ogité, oshevú hedíe saní koisas egilita, literally "I come to you for the purpose of regarding I will go to my home," or more pragmatically, "I come to you to discuss the matter of my going home."

  • Easier translations can be found when the Lilitika uses hedíu ... kwedzin, which becomes "about how" or "about why" in English:
  • Hedíhé Haplenía uvíra idzhobizé kwedzin libra vézé, "This book is about how Haplenía sacrificed herself."
