The Force Manifold is a phenomenon apparently unique to the Expanse which consists of a large network of extrabranar machines capable of projecting precise changes at a quantum level over vast distances. Historically the force manifold has also been known as magic (translated variously as θαῦμα in Glissia or haspina in Lilitika), and many academic texts still refer to the FM as the Thaumatic Manipulator Field, and its use as 'thaumatology' (the study of miracles.) In many cases civilizations in the Expanse have developed FM-based technologies without awareness of the underlying mechanism, and have consequently incorporated FM effects into their standard physical models.

This chapter will strive to demystify the FM network, as well as account for a number of familiar and important FM effects and access formats.
